The fact of the matter is very little of anything you will find on this site amounts to a hill of Beans if ACTIVATION isn’t present. Seriously, who cares if people read your blog, visit your site or download your uber cool app if they don’t take steps further down the purchase path? Don’t take this the wrong way, we’re willing to celebrate small steps as much as the next guy, but let’s be honest a walk off homerun beats getting on base because you ducked too late.
Can we tell you a secret? We really don’t know which of this stuff is going to work for you and your audience. We don’t. We have no idea. At the risk of irritating our competitors they don’t know either. Even if it’s worked 100 times before in a business three miles from you who serves the exact same clientele doesn’t mean it will work the next time. Why? Because people are people and they do what they do. There is little rhyme or reason.
So how do we deliver success?? I’m so glad I asked!
We test. And test. And change the parameters and test some more. We do A/B testing (this vs. that). We do Multivariate testing (this +this –this vs that +this +this) and then we do it all again. Is it the color? Could be. Maybe it’s the fact that this picture was too big. We will make it smaller, then just to be sure we will make it bigger too. Analytics are powerful and drive better decision making. The key thing to remember on the web is just because you like it doesn’t mean everyone else will. Best practices call for understanding the different personality types and creating individual experiences that work well for each of them. So now you know that we’re metrics nerds. Good for us and for you.

Like having a strong call to action and follow up! Too many sites give you a bunch of good information and then forget to tell you what to do next. A single, strong and clear call to action is the most important thing you can have on a website. And once they take that action your team had better be prepared to follow up. Follow up is the single biggest reason people blow sales. Too much follow up and people get irritated. Not enough follow up and people forget you proposed to them. Obnoxious follow up and they totally write you off. Timid follow up and they don’t believe you believe you’re worth doing business with. As you can see there are a lot of ways to lose business.
